Javelin thrower Jacqueline Todten won the silver medal at the 1972 München Olympics close behind her teammate [Ruth Fuchs], and placed an unfortunate fourth as Jacqueline Hein four years later in Montréal, after marrying shot putter and non-Olympian Siegbert Hein. The couple later divorced. In 1974 she again won a silver medal at the European Championships, also behind Fuchs, who set a world record with 67.22. In 1970 Todten-Hein was European Youth Champion. Domestically she was East German Champion in 1974, and was runner-up in 1971-73. In 1973 she set a world record with 63.14. Her uncle Günther Kunert, who was a well-known writer and poet in the former GDR, wrote the poem Javelin thrower for her.

After her athletic career Todten-Hein studied education and worked in Berlin's Pankow District with the reintegration of dismissed offenders.
