Sprinter Alberto Torres was the first athlete from the Dominican Republic to compete in the Olympics, bearing the flag of the the country's inaugural Olympic team at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. Torres, who competed in his second Olympics in Mexico, was honoured as a torch bearer at the opening of the 1974 Central American and Carribean Games in Santo Domingo. In 1979, he was inducted in the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame. Personal Bests: 100 – 10.3 (1968); 200 – 21.4 (1959). |
