Biography

Wolfram Thiem was a member of Hannoverscher Ruderclub von 1880 eV beginning in 1973. In his career he won 18 national titles and took part in the 1976 and 1984 Olympics, with the 1980 the US-led boycott preventing him from reaching his third Olympics. In 1976 his crew was fourth in the coxed eights, and in 1984 he placed sixth in his favorite boat, the coxed fours. In that event he was also runner-up at the World Championships in 1977 and 1978, and won a bronze medal in 1979. Later he became chairman of his home club in Hannover. Wolfram Thiem died at the early age of 55.
