Biography

A defenseman who played for 15 years (1964-78) with EV Füssen, Rudi Thanner won six German Championships. He also played 430 Bundesliga matches, scoring 73 goals, and earned 118 international caps, participating in two B and six A World Championships, in addition to his Winter Olympics appearances in 1968, 1972, and 1976. Thanner later made his living as the tourism manager of the Landkreis Ostallgäu. Between 1984 and 2002 he was a member of the town parliament in his hometown of Füssen and was a local politician. He was best known for his work building the ski jumps at Füssen. In 1989 he was inducted into the German Ice Hockey Hall of Fame.
