Although Delos Thurber was a 6-7½ (2.02) high jumper, his performances tended to be overshadowed by the record-breaking feats of his contemporaries, Corny Johnson and Dave Albritton. He never won a major domestic championship, but placed third at the NCAA in 1937 and tied for third the following year.
