Biography

Hans Tatzer played 86 times for the Austrian national team between 1926 and 1938, a record for any pre-World War II player, and was a member of the teams that won the European Championships in 1927 and 1931 and World Championship bronze also in 1931. Tatzer worked as a painter and later a postal worker while playing for a succession of clubs in his native Vienna as a speedy and hardworking left wing. He also represented Austria at handball and played football and field hockey to a high level. Tatzer was killed in action in 1944 whilst serving in the south of France.
