Biography

Julie Staver played hockey (field) and lacrosse at the University of Pennsylvania, making All-American in hockey in 1973 and lacrosse in 1973-74. She was given the prestigious Father’s Award at Penn in 1974. Staver played on the US national hockey team from 1973-84, and in the mid-1970s was also on the US national lacrosse team. Staver made the 1980 US Olympic team which did not compete, and was named captain. She was co-captain of the 1984 US Olympic hockey team.

After graduation from Penn, Staver was assistant hockey coach and assistant athletic director but later entered veterinary school at Penn. She graduated from vet school in 1982 and later practiced veterinary medicine in rural Pennsylvania. Penn now presents the Julie Staver Award to an outstanding athlete who competes in both hockey (field) and lacrosse.
