Biography

Before she was an ice hockey forward, France St. Louis was active in lacrosse and won bronze (1985 and 1988), silver (1986), and gold (1989) medals at the Canadian Championships, as well as being a member of the national team from 1985 through 1989. For her efforts she was named the Quebec Athlete of the Decade in lacrosse for the 1980s. When it came to hockey she was ever more successful, for she won gold medals at five World Championships (1990, 1992, 1994, 1997, 1999) as a member of the national team from its 1990 inception until 1998, captaining Team Canada in 1992 and 1994. She also captured a silver medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics, suiting up for six matches and scoring one goal. She also won a dozen medals, seven of them gold, at Canadian Championships for Quebec from 1985 through 1999, was named MVP at five of them (1988, 1990, 1991, 1997, 1998), and was captain of her squad in 1993, a bronze medal year. Prior to her athletic career she attended the Université de Sherbrooke from 1977 through 1980 and obtained her Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education, as well as a teaching certificate. From 1986 until her 1999 retirement from active play she worked professionally as a physical education instructor in primary and high schools. After leaving Team Canada she founded the France St. Louis Hockey School and began working as a teacher at the Cégep du Vieux-Montréal. She was made a member of the Panthéon des sports du Québec Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
