Biography

Håkan Södergren played almost his entire career from 1977-92 with Djurgårdens IF, except his last season as an active player, when he was with Huddinge IK. With Djurgårdens, Södergren won Swedish titles in 1983 and 1989-91 and the European Champions’ Cup in 1990 and 1991. He was awarded the Goldpucken award in 1987 as the best player at the Swedish championships and was selected to the Swedish championships all-star team in 1986 and 1987.

Södergren was capped 162 times with the Swedish national team. He won Olympic bronzes in 1984 and 1988, and was World Champion in 1987, while taking silver in 1986. He also won silver in 1986 and bronzes at the 1983 and 1989 European Championships. He was awarded the Stora Grabbars Märke (Big Boys’ Badge) #125 in ice hockey.

After finishing his sporting career, Södergren worked as an ice hockey coach, sports administrator and ice hockey commentator, working as an expert with Swedish TV channels TV3, TV6 and Viasat Sport. From 1997-2009 he was the coach and sports director of Vålerengens IF, and in 2009, Södergren became the director of GET-ligaen, the premier Norwegian ice hockey league.
