Biography

Lauri Siering competed on the U.S. medley relay team at the 1976 Olympics. She also competed in the two individual breaststroke events at Montréal, failing to survive the heats of the 200m and being eliminated in the semi-finals of the 100m. Siering overcame severe problems with asthma and hay fever to become a world-class swimmer. After difficult workouts she would often become ill because of problems getting a full breath, and for the Montréal Olympics she was at less than her best because her normal medication was banned by the IOC and she had to switch to a different drug. Siering later attended Southern Cal, where she was coached by former Olympian Pokey Watson-Richardson.
