Biography

Aside from his Olympic bronze, Dmitry Sergeyev won silver at the 1995 World Championships, silver at the 1995 European Championships and bronze at the 1993, 1994 and 1996 European Championships, all as a half-heavyweight. He also won three Russian half-heavyweight titles, in 1994, 1996 and 2000. Sergeyev retired from competition in 2000 and later worked as a judo coach. In 2001 he was named head coach of the Russian junior national judo team.
