Anuwat Sermsiri had his national breakthrough at the age of 18, when he in 1986 competed in the sprint distances in the Asian Championships and also was in the Thai team for the Junior World Championships. He earned a place in the 4×100 m team for the 1988 Olympics, also participating in the event in the 1990 Asian Games.
