After the 1988 Olympics, Scriabin switched to bantamweight and in 1989 won his first Soviet title. Scriabin also competed at the 1989 European Championships, where he reached the final, losing to Bulgarian Serafim Todorov and the 1989 World Championships, where he lost his second round bout to East German Dieter Berg. In 1990, Scriabin won his second Soviet title, but again lost his first round bout against Serafim Todorov at the 1990 Goodwill Games. In 1991, Scriabin took bronze at the Soviet Championships and in 1993 won the CIS Championships. Scriabin, by then representing the newly independent Moldova, also won bronze at the 1994 Goodwill Games and another bronze at the 1998 World Cup. Scriabin competed at the 1993, 1996 and 1998 European Championships and 1993, 1995 and 1997 World Championships, but with little success. In 2000, Scriabin finished his amateur boxing career with a record of 352 wins in 400 bouts and turned professional, but fought only two fights, losing them both.
