Biography

Robert Schauffler was the son of missionaries and was born in Brunn, Austria, carrying dual US and Austrian citizenhip. He studied at Northwestern University from 1898-99, Princeton in 1901, and the University of Berlin from 1902-03. Schauffler studied with cellists Steindel, Schröder, and Hekking in Berlin, but his career was as an editor, author, and lecturer. He was severely wounded in World War I on 26 September 1918 at Montfaucon. Schauffler eventually settled in New York City where he lived until his death.
