Biography

Forward Hans Schnitger played in all five matches with the Dutch team at the 1936 Olympics and scored five goals, as the team won a bronze medal. At the club level, Schnitger played with EHC Prinses Wilhelmina. His best finish with them at the Dutch Championships was a runner-up in 1936 although he won the Dutch Eastern District championships with them in 1935-36. After his retirement from sports, Schnitger remained active in hockey circles and was team leader of the Dutch Olympic hockey team at the 1968 and 1972 Olympics and in 1973 Schnitger was made an honorary member of the Dutch Hockey Federation. At the time of his death in March 2013, Schnitger was the oldest living Dutch Olympian.
