Al Sanborn started at Beloit College but earned an appointment to the Naval Academy in 1918. He was the strongest man on the 1920 Navy eight, and sat in the "engine room" at number five. Graduating in 1922, Sanborn earned an M.S. degree from MIT in 1928 in engineering, but remained a career naval officer, retiring in 1951 as a captain. He then worked as a sales engineer for the Wright Aeronautical Corp. |
