Vitaly Savin from Kazakhstan made his international début at the 1988 Olympics, where he reached the quarter-finals of the 100 metres event and ran anchor for the Soviet 4x100 relay team, which won the gold medal in the United States’ absence. At the 1991 World Championships Savin was again eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 100 m and was seventh in the 4x100. At the 1992 Olympics Savin was eliminated in the semis of the 100 and was fifth with the Unified Team's 4x100 m relay. He also won the Soviet 100 m title in 1991 and the CIS 100 m title in 1992. Savin, by then representing his native Kazakhstan, reached to quarter-finals of the 100 m at the 1993 and 1995 World Championships and won silver in the 100 m at the 1994 Asian Games. His last major tournament was the 1996 Olympics, where he was eliminated in the heats of 100 metres. Personal Best: 100 – 10.08 (1992). |
