Gloria Russell threw the javelin for the Western Women’s Club. In 1928-29 she was voted California Girls’ State Athlete of the Year. At the AAU Championships, Russell was second in 1928 and third 1932 (which doubled as the Olympic Trials) with the javelin. She won the 1929 AAU baseball throw with an American record throw of 258-1 [78.66].
