Biography

Trish Roberts played college ball at North Georgia State, Emporia State, and the University of Tennessee. As a Volunteer she set records (and still holds them through 2013) for points in a season (929, 29.9 ppg) and in a game (51). She played forward at Tennessee after playing center at Emporia State, where she averaged 22 ppg and 12 rebounds/game. She later played professionally in the Women’s Professional Basketball League (WPBL) with the Minnesota Fillies and the St. Louis Streak.

After her playing career, Roberts went into coaching. She served as an assistant coach at Central Michigan University (1982-84), the University of Illinois (1984-85), the University of Wisconsin (1985-86), and the University of North Carolina (1986-88), and was then named head coach at the University of Maine. She stayed there through 1992, when she became head coach at the University of Michigan. At both Maine and Michigan Roberts had troubles when several players and coaches left those teams, upset with her martinet-like coaching methods. Roberts resigned as Michigan coach in May 1996, and then coached for a year with the Atlanta Glory of the American Basketball League. She later coached Stony Brook University from 1999-2004, and in 2011 was named head coach at Agnes Scott College.

Roberts was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000, and is also a member of the Tennessee Lady Volunteer Hall of Fame (2003), the Emporia State College Hall of Fame (1994), and the Women In Sports and Education Hall of Fame (1996).
