German sculptor Otto Rost received an Honorable Mention at the 1936 Berlin Art Competitions in the category Sculpturing, Reliefs for his work Rugbykampf (Rugby fight). As a Nazi sympathizer, he was able to work until 1945 as a teacher at the Academy of Arts in Dresden, but after World War II he could no longer be employed. However, Rost came to terms with the East German state party SED and created war memorials as public contracts. Among others he restored the Luther Memorial in the town of Döbeln in Saxony in 1961.
