Biography

André Roosevelt was the son of Cornelius Roosevelt (1847-1902), who had married a French actress and was the cousin of US President Teddy Roosevelt. André became a filmmaker and adventurer. In 1924 he travelled to Bali to try to develop tourism there. In 1928-29 he and Armand Denis filmed “Goona-Goona\: An Authetic Melodrama,” which was released in the United States in 1930 and started an American craze for Bali. He also managed resort hotels on Bali. Roosevelt is best known for his 1938 film, “Beyond the Caribbean.”
