Biography

A firefighter by profession, Pentti Rekola was the best Finnish all-around sprinter at the end of 1950 and start of 1960s. Between 1956 and 1962, Rekola competed in 29 international matches for Finland, including the 1956 and 1960 Olympics and 1958 and 1962 European Championships. Domestically, Rekola won the Finnish 100 m title in 1956-1958 and 1961, the 200 m and 400 m titles in 1959, ran on winning 4x100 m relay teams in 1957 and 1959, and added 4x400 m relay titles 1956-1963. His son Harri was also a track and field athlete, who won the Finnish 4x100 m relay title in 1989, a Finnish Championships 4x100 m relay silver in 1987 and a long jump bronze in 1983.

Personal Bests: 200 – 21.5 (1959); 400 – 47.4 (1957).
