Biography

Jaroslav Pouzar was a left winger who started his career in Czechoslovakia with Motor České Budějovice in 1969. He played with them through the 1981-82 season, when he was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the 4th round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. Pouzar then played in the National Hockey League with the Oilers from 1982-85 and 1986-87, where he played in 186 games, scoring 34 goals and 82 points, and he played on three Stanley Cup winning teams – 1984-85 and 1987. In the one year he did not play with the Oilers, he was with ECD Iserlohn in the German Elite League and he returned to Iserlohn in 1987 and remained in Germany for the rest of his career, playing mostly with the Starbulls Rosenheim and one season with EV Augsberger, before retiring in 1992.

On an international level, Pouzar first played for Czechoslovakia at the 1970 and 1971 European Junior Championships. He later played at the 1976 and 1980 Winter Olympics, winning a silver medal in 1976. Pouzar played six times at the World Championships, winning gold medals in 1976-77, silver medals in 1978-79 and 1982, and a bronze medal in 1981. He also competed at the 1976 and 1981 Canada Cup, helping Czechoslovakia to a runner-up finish in 1976.
