Biography

Ice hockey forward Herbert “Bert” Plaxton attended the 1928 Winter Olympics only after his better known relative Hugh lobbied to have him join the team before their journey, against coach Conn Smythe’s wishes. Thus he, along with another relative Roger, were not members of the 1927 Allan Cup-winning Toronto Graduates, like the majority of the team. Nevertheless, Bert outperformed Roger, playing in only two games (one less than Roger) but scoring just as many goals (two more than Roger), and took home a gold medal from the tournament. After his hockey career, he practiced law.
