Biography

Dušan Pašek started out his career with ŠK Slovan Bratislava in 1977 and played with them through 1988, except for one season (1985-86) with HC Dukla Jihlava. He was chosen by the Minnesota North Stars in the 4th round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft and played for the North Stars in 1988-89. In 1989-90 he played with the Kalamazoo Wings, a farm club in the International Hockey League (IHL) in the United States. He then returned to Europe, finishing out his career with clubs in Italy, Finland, and Switzerland before retiring after the 1992-93 season.

A left winger Pašek played for Czechoslovakia at the 1981, 1984 and 1987 Canada Cups in addition to the 1984 and 1988 Winter Olympics. He played at the World Championships in 1982-83 and 1985-87, winning a gold medal in 1985, silvers in 1982-83 and a bronze in 1987. He also competed at the European Juniors in 1978 and the World Juniors in 1979-80, winning a silver medal in 1979.

After his playing days ended, Pašek became manager of ŠK Slovan Bratislava, and in 1993 became manager of the Slovakian National Team. In 1997 he was named President of the Slovakian Ice Hockey Federation. But he was in that position for less than a year when he took his own life, shooting himself in March 1998.
