Biography

Alison Owen-Spencer competed at two Winter Olympic Games in cross-country skiing for the United States. In December 1978 Owen-Spencer won a World Cup 5K race, sometimes considered the first ever World Cup event for cross-country, although the FIS has said it was only a test race, and she finished seventh overall for the 1978-79 season. In 1978 she won the Finlandia Award as the outstanding Nordic skier in the United States. In 1979 she won the US Championships at both 5 and 10K. Owen-Spencer attended several colleges, including Alaska Methodist University, where she met her future husband, Joe Spencer, though they would later divorce.
