For a few years, Puck Oversloot was the best Dutch backstroke swimmer, succeeding 1928 Olympic champion Marie Braun. In Los Angeles, she gained was a reserve on the Dutch relay squad, but she competed in the final after Braun had somewhat mysteriously fallen ill, and won a silver medal. In 1933 Oversloot bettered Braun's Dutch Record in the 100 back. 1934 was her best year, winning the Dutch title in the backstroke, and placing third in the European Championships in the same event. However, she also lost her Dutch record to Rie Mastenbroek a club mate at ODZ in Rotterdam, who would go on to win three gold medals at the Berlin Games. |
