Biography

Gerard Overdijkink was selected for the Dutch Olympic hockey team for the 1956 Games, which was favored for a medal. But shortly before the opening ceremony, the Dutch government decided to boycott the Games because of the Soviet intervention of the Hungarian Revolt. Overdijkink, who won a total of 41 caps, did get to play at the Olympics four years later, when the Dutch team placed 9th. While a student, he played for DSHC, winning the Dutch title in 1958. The rest of his life, he was active for [SCHC], the club from his hometown. He played both hockey and cricket for the SCHC, and served as chairman for some time.
