Biography

Ice hockey forward Danny O’Shea spent 1961 through 1966 in the Junior Ontario Hockey Association for two years with the Peterborough TPT’s and four with the Oshawa Generals prior to joining the Canadian national men’s ice hockey team. He won bronze medals at both of his major international meets, the 1967 World Championships and the 1968 Winter Olympics, playing in seven games and scoring three goals in the latter. The following year he was recruited by the National Hockey League’s Minnesota North Stars and played with them until 1971, a tenure that included All-Star Games in 1969 and 1970. He was traded to the league’s Chicago Blackhawks in February 1971 and again to the St. Louis Blues in February 1972. He had a full season with the Blues in 1972-1973, but suffered a heart attack in July 1973 that prevented him from receiving medical clearance to play in the NHL. He returned in 1974 for a season with the Minnesota Fighting Saints of the World Hockey Association before retiring for good in 1975.
