Wally Olds

At 6-2 (1.88) and 200 lbs. (91 kg.), Wally Olds certainly was the right size for a defenseman. He played that position at every level of hockey, starting with the University of Minnesota, where he made all-western All-America in 1970. After graduation in 1971 he spent a year with the U.S. National team during which time he played in the Olympics. Olds was signed by the Detroit Red Wings of the NHL and later the Chicago Cougars of the WHA. However he never played hockey in either major league. Instead he bounced around the minors with such teams as the Long Island Ducks, the New York Raiders, and the Oklahoma City Blazers. His best year in pro hockey was probably 1975 when, as a member of the Hampton Gulls, he was voted co-MVP of the Southern Hockey League. After leaving pro hockey Olds played with the 1977 and 1979 U.S. National teams at the World Championships.
