Biography

Aside from his Olympic bronze, Ukrainian Anatoliy Novikov won the 1973 World Championships half-middleweight bronze, the 1972 European Championships half-middleweight silver, and European Championships team titles in 1972 and 1973. He was also Soviet sambo (a Soviet wrestling style similar to judo) half-middleweight champion in 1970 and Soviet judo half-middleweight champion in 1973. After finishing his sporting career, Novikov worked as a judo and sambo coach in his native Ukraine.
