Ingvard Nielsen was a dairyman apprentice in Kerteminde when he began to train for distances, winning the 1945 Funen Championship in cross-country when only 19-years-old. He recorded his Olympic qualifying mark at Østerbro Stadium just five weeks before the 1948 Olympics, running 3:54.2 at the Midsommerstævnet. Nielsen competed in lesser events until 1958, and then continued jogging into his later life. Personal Best: 1500 – 3:54.2 (1948). |
