Ashley Nicoll joined Canada’s national equestrian team in the mid-1980s and was a member of its delegation to the 1988 Summer Olympics where, alongside Eva-Maria Pracht, Cindy Neale-Ishoy, and Gina Smith, she won a bronze medal in team dressage after placing 16th individually. Her next major international success came at the 1991 Pan American Games where, competing as Ashley Munro, she earned gold in the team event (with Smith, Leslie Reid, and Lorraine Stubbs) and silver individually (Stubbs captured the gold) . After a long absence, she returned as Ashley Holzer at the 2002 World Equestrian Games and has been a fixture of the Canadian team ever since, despite becoming an American citizen in 2009. Although she has yet to relive her Olympic glory, with her best individual finish among the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Summer Games being 13th, she did win silver in the team event alongside Reid, Jacqueline Brooks, and Evi Strasser at the 2003 Pan American Games. Her husband, Charles, represented the United States Virgin Islands in the equestrian jumping event at the 1992 Summer Olympics and together they own and operate the Riverdale Equestrian Centre in Bronx, New York. |
