Biography

German Oskar Nerlinger worked as a painter and graphic artist under the pseudonym “Nilgreen.” He studied in Berlin, after his training in Strasbourg and also lived there. As a member of the Communist Party, he was not allowed to exhibit when the Nazis seized the power in Germany. After World War II, Nerlinger moved to the GDR in 1951, after he was removed from his duties as a university teacher in West Berlin for political reasons. In East Germany he represented Socialist Realism.
