Fred Narganes was born in Cuba but came to the United States in 1895. His father, Ricardo Narganes, was a wealthy sugar plantation owner in Cuba. Fred Narganes eventually attended Columbia University where he won the Intercollegiate Wrestling Association middleweight title in 1907 and he was AAU middleweight champion in 1907, 1909, and 1910, wrestling for the New York AC. Narganes, along with his brothers, Aurelio and Ricardo, Jr., later worked with the family company, the New Niguero Sugar Company, and apparently frequently travelled back and forth between Cuba and the US, although little is known of his later life. |
