Biography

Richard Murry was a British painter of landscapes, figures and coastal scenes in oil and watercolor. He studied typography and bookbinding at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in Durwich and then studied draughtsmanship at the Slade School of Art. Murry was secretary of the New English Art Club for three years and in 1928 became assistant Art Master at the Architectural Association. He left that position in 1930 to become a teacher at Surbiton Grammar School where he remained until returning to the Architectural Association in 1935 as librarian, a post he held until retiring in 1967. During World War II Murry served in the Royal Marines and the Royal Naval Film Unit.
