Biography

Henri Raphaël Moncassin was a sculptor of portraits, busts and monuments. He studied under Antonin Mercié, and was co-winner of the second Prix de Rome in sculpture. In Paris, the Salon of French Artists exhibited his work regularly beginning in 1905. Moncassion travelled through Italy in 1908 on a scholarship. After World War I, he made monuments and statues, his favourite topics being busts of children which enjoyed great interest from the public. This led him to a successful career creating busts of well-known personalities.
