Lennox Miller became the first great 100 metre sprinter from Jamaica. He attended the University of Southern California, running anchor on a sprint relay team that set a world record of 38.6 seconds in 1967 – O. J. Simpson was one of the other runners on the team. At the 1971 Pan American Games Miller won gold in the 4×100 metres relay (with Alfred Daley, Don Quarrie, and the non-Olympian Carl Lawson) and silver in the 100 metres. After graduating from USC, Miller went to dental school there and practiced dentistry in the Pasadena area for over 30 years. His daughter, Inger Miller, also became a renowned sprinter, and competed for the United States at the Olympics. Personal Best: 100 – 10.04 (1968). |
