Biography

A longtime member of the St. Catherine’s Rowing Club, John “Munch” McIntyre was a member of the Canadian coxed eights team that finished in ninth place (out of twelve squads) at the 1968 Summer Olympics. He later worked as a rowing coach at his former club, and at Ridley College in St. Catherine’s Ontario, home to one of Canada’s strongest rowing programs. He continued to compete throughout his life as well, participating in numerous masters-level tournaments in the coxed fours (alongside Richard Symsyk among others) until his death in July 2009 of a heart attack, which occurred just over a month before that of his Olympic teammate John Ross.
