Polish painter Edward Antoni Manteuffel-Szoege was married to graphic and poster artist Wanda Zawidzka (1906-94). His brother Tadeusz Julius Joseph (1902-70) became a well-known historian and expert on the Middle Ages in Poland, and his other brother Leon Edward (1904-73) was a surgery professor.
Mantueffel was a painter and graphic artist who studied at the Warszawa Academy of Fine Arts. He then worked on designing covers and magazines, was an illustrator of books, and produced decorations for exhibitions and project sites. During the 1930s he also studied in Leipzig and Berlin. In 1939 he was captured and imprisoned by the Soviets, and was mysteriously murdered by the NKVD in April or May 1940 in Krákow, the exact date of death not known.
