Biography

A centre-half Eric Lee played in all four of Great Britain’s matches at the 1948 Olympics and the Great Britain manager Matt Buby rated him as one of the best centre-halves in the game at the time. He joined Chester as a 17-year-old but then served in India and Burma during the war before he made his full debut for Chester in August 1946. He went on to play 363 League games for the Sealand Road club over the next 11 years. He remained an amateur throughout his playing career so he could continue his career as a teacher. Eric’s youngest son Peter played 431 NHL games for the Pittsburgh Penguins and was assistant coach to the Swiss ice hockey team at both the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics.
