Carol Lewis was a top long jumper for the United States in the 1980s, but was overshadowed by the accomplishments of her brother, Carl Lewis, possibly the greatest ever track & field athlete. They were both the children of Evelyn Lawler, who competed for the US at the 1951 Pan American Games. Carol Lewis won a bronze medal in the long jump at the 1983 World Athletics Championships, was third at the 1985 World Cup, and 1981, won a gold medal at the World University Games as a member of the 4×100 relay team. Lewis won 11 national titles in the long jump – TAC outdoors in 1982-83, and 1985; TAC indoors in 1981, 1983-85, 1987, and 1991; and NCAA titles in 1983 and 1985, while competing for the University of Houston. She also represented the Santa Monica Track Club. She now works as a color analyst for track & field on television.
