Biography

Jacques Lacarrière left his mark in French ice hockey as both a player and an official. Originally playing for CSHP, Lacarrière co-founded the Parisian club Français Volants in 1933. Playing in the Vélodrôme d'Hivèr, ice hockey and the Volants enjoyed a brief period of popularity in Paris during the 1930s. By then, defenseman Lacarrière had already been a regular in the French national team, debuting at the 1928 Olympics. He would eventually win 53 caps and compete in two Olympic and five World Championships, although with little success for the French team. Lacarrière did win three national titles (all with Volants). While still a player, he also started a career in administration, being involved with both the French ice hockey and ice sports federations. From 1946 until 1961, he was president of the French ice hockey federation. He was honored for his contributions in 1998, when he was inducted in the IIHF hall of fame. After his death, the trophy for the French Super Cup was named Trophée Jacques Lacarrière. Jacques' son, Philippe, also played for the French national team, competing in the 1968 Olympics.
