Herbert Laabs had the following podium finishes at the Flatwater World Championships: 1st 1974 K4 1000 m (with Bernd Duvigneau, Jürgen Lehnert, and the non-Olympian Ulrich Hellige), 2nd 1975 K2 500 m (with Harald Marg), 2nd 1975 K4 1000 m (with Rüdiger Helm, Harald Marg, and the non-Olympian Gerhard Rummel), 3rd 1973 K2 1000 m (with Joachim Mattern), 3rd 1974 K2 500 m (with the non-Olympian Ulrich Hellige).
