Biography

Belgian architect Frans Laporta studied from 1930-33 at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in the workshop of well-known Belgian architect Jos Smolderen (1889-1973). During this time he designed the Airport, the work that was submitted to the 1932 Art Competitions in Los Angeles. Laporta was one of Smolderen’s favorite students and worked for his architectural bureau from 1933-1940. In collaboration with other Belgian architects, Laporta built the office complex Arpic in Wilrijk in 1937. He was also responsible for the expansion and renovation of various rural buildings. In 1958 Laporta designed a symmetrically built villa in Antwerp and in 1960 a church school in Brecht, both in country style.
