Biography

Andrey Krylov made his international début at the 1974 European Championships, where he won silver in the 4×200 freestyle relay and bronze in the 400 freestyle. He competed at his first Olympics in 1976, winning silver in the 4×200 relay. At the 1977 European Championships, Krylov won a full set of medals, gold in 4×200 free relay, silver in 200 free and bronze in the short freestyle relay. At the 1978 World Championships, he added a silver in the 4×200 m freestyle relay. The best international tournament for Krylov was the 1980 Olympics, where he won gold in the 4×200 freestyle and silvers in both the 200 and 400 free. Domestically Krylov was a 12-time Soviet champion – in 1976 and 1978 in 100 free, in 1975-77 in 200 free, in 1976 and 1978 in 4×100 freestyle relay, in 1975-76 and 1978-79 in 4×200 free relay and in 1979 in the medley relay. Krylov retired from sports after the 1980 Olympics and worked as swimming coach and official in St. Petersburg, before working as head of the physical culture department at the St. Petersburg State Transport University from 1997-2008. Since 2008, Krylov has worked as a pro-rector with Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health, St. Petersburg.

Personal Best: 100 m freestyle – 52.02 (1976); 200 m freestyle – 1:50.73 (1976); 400 m freestyle – 3:53.24 (1980).
