Biography

In addition to playing hockey for Zimbabwe, Lloyd Koch was a top-level cricketer. During his career he played hockey for Natal, Rhodesia, and South Africa, in addition to Zimbabwe, and served as the captain of the Rhodesian hockey team at the 1964 Olympics, also carrying the Rhodesian flag at the 1964 Opening Ceremony. As a cricketer he played for Orange Free State (1948/49-1954/55), Natal (1955/56-1957/58), Rhodesia from (1958/59-1960/61), and also twice for an unofficial South African XI against the Australian touring team in 1949/50. Koch was a right-handed batsman and an occasional right-arm fast-medium bowler. In 46 first-class matches he scored 2,400 runs at an average of 29.62 with a highest score of 216 against Natal in 1952.
