Biography

Marko Kiprusoff started to play hockey at the Finnish Championships in 1990 with Turun Palloseura (TPS). He played with them until 1995 and won Finnish titles with them in 1990, 1991, 1993 and 1995. In 1994, Kiprusoff was drafted by the Montréal Canadiens and in 1995 started to play with them, but did not make much impact as he returned to Europe after only one season in the NHL. From 1996-98, Kiprusoff played with Malmö IF in Sweden and then from 1998-00 again with TPS, winning his fifth Finnish title with them in 1999. From 2000-01, Kirprusoff played in Switzerland with EHC Kloten, but then decided to try his hand in the NHL once more. He played with the New York Islanders in 2001, but again did not make much impact and returned to Europe after only one season, resuming his career with EHC Kloten. Kiprusoff played with EHC Kloten until 2004 and then returned to TPS, where he played until 2009. He then played one season in France with Ducs d’Angers, then one season with Kuusamon Pallo-Karhut (PaKa) in Finland and since 2011 has played with Kouvolan Edustuskiekko (KooKoo). Internationally, Kiprusoff has played 198 games with the Finnish national team. He played at the 1994 Olympics, at the 1994-95, 1997-99, 2001 and 2003 World Championships and the 1996 World Cup. He won Olympic bronze in 1994, was a World Champion in 1995 and won World Championships silvers in 1994, 1998, 1999 and 2001. His younger brother Miikka is also an ice hockey player who won Olympic bronze in 2010.
