Ellen King had the following podium finishes at major championships: 2nd in the 1928 Olympics 100 metres Backstroke, 2nd in the 1928 Olympics 4×100 metres Freestyle Relay; 2nd in the 1930 British Empire Games 100 yards Freestyle, 3rd in the 1930 British Empire Games 200 yards Breaststroke, 3rd in the 1930 British Empire Games 4×100 yards Freestyle Relay (with Cissie Stewart, Jean McDowell, and the non-Olympian Jessie McVey); 1st in the 1927 European Championships 4×100 metres Freestyle Relay (with Valerie Davies, Joyce Cooper, and the non-Olympian Marion Laverty). In the British Empire Games King represented Scotland.
