Born In Ireland, Mike Kelly emigrated to the United States in 1888 and settled in New York, where he worked as a laborer, before enlisting in the US Army Engineer Corps in 1893. He made his career in the military, reaching the enlisted rank of Sergeant. He became a naturalized US citizen in June 1920, shortly before leaving for the 1920 Olympic Games. Kelly retired from the Army after the Antwerp Olympics, settling in Koblenz, Germany, where he lived until his death. |
